Microsoft Secure Score or Sentinel Audit365?

Two ways to measure your Microsoft 365 security. One is built into the Microsoft portal; the other runs on its own and delivers a report every month that tells you what to do.

What is Microsoft Secure Score?

Microsoft Secure Score is an indicator built into the Microsoft Defender portal. It awards points to your tenant based on the Microsoft security recommendations you have implemented, and suggests actions to improve. It is included in Microsoft 365 at no extra cost.

It is an excellent starting point. It does, however, require an administrator to sign in to the portal, interpret technical recommendations that depend on your licences, and track their progress themselves.

What Sentinel Audit365 adds

  • Three recognised frameworks. Each check is mapped to CIS Microsoft 365, the ANSSI hygiene guide and the Microsoft Security Baseline.
  • A score that reflects real risk. Email and identity, the main entry points for attacks, weigh the most.
  • Reports that tell you what to do. Each gap comes with the concrete actions to take, in order of priority.
  • Nothing to check, nothing to run. The audit runs on its own every month and the reports land in your SharePoint.
  • A document for management. A PDF summary and a written analysis, on top of the technical detail.
  • Beyond security. Unused licences, service adoption and history from one audit to the next.

Using both

Secure Score and Sentinel Audit365 are not mutually exclusive. Secure Score remains a useful day-to-day indicator for your administrators. Sentinel Audit365 brings the complete, regular view: the CIS and ANSSI frameworks, prioritisation, and a report that management can read and keep.
